Baptisia aberrans is the only blue-flowered Baptisia in Alabama and the rarest of all species known in the state.  It is sufficiently distinct from B. australis (L.) R. Br. and B. minor Lehm. to warrant recognition at the species rank (see Weakley in Weakley et al 2018).--B. Keener
